The Giralda is the bell
tower of
Seville ’s Cathedral which is one of the largest remaining Gothic churches in the world. The Giralda tower is 97.5 metres in height and has become an emblem of
Seville for its beauty and its mixed cultural origins. The tower is a former Almohad minaret and was one of the most important symbols of the medieval city. It has 34 wide ramps instead of stairs, which would have been used in the past for the Muezzin to ride a horse to the top of and recite the call to prayer. Tourists today climb the 34 ramps to take in the stunning views over the town and admire the cathedral’s pinnacles and gargoyles.
