You will find a fortress palace or “Alcazar” in most Andalusian cities, the most famous of which has to be the breathtaking Alhambra in Granada, an emblem of Moorish settlements and architectural influences in Spain. The Royal Alcazar in Seville is built on Roman and Almohada foundations which date back to the 1100’s but the whole palace has undergone extensive renovation and the walls surrounding the Puerta de Leon and the Patio del Yeso are the only remains of the Moorish and Almohada period. During the day you can pay to enter the Alcazar and at night many tourists come to admire or to take photos of the illuminated palace walls.
