The beautiful Torre del Oro or Golden Tower looks over the Guadalquivir River , traditionally protecting the city of Seville from intruders. There are different theories or legends as to how this tower earned its name. One belief is that the 16^th and 17^th century explorers, who had ventured to the or the New World , stored the gold there that they had bought back with them from their voyages. Another belief is that the tower used to be covered in gold tiles which the Almohads had put there. The Tower now houses a nautical museum where perhaps the truth may be uncovered.
